This is just one of many great ways to share your faith in Jesus Christ!! Remember, all evangelism works best with a sincere love for Jesus Christ and a sincere love for others.
The advantage of the method listed here is that it is tested, has been used on many occasions, and in many environments with success where you normally are not supposed to talk about religion.
Another advantage to this method is that it addresses sin, salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, and it is one of the few methods that address the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ; a necessity to salvation.
Phase I – The Assessment
This is a section where you are trying to get to know the person you are sharing your faith with. These questions are very important because you may have to respond in ways that is beyond this method. When you are asking these questions, people will give answers that are contradictory to the Bible. Don’t snap back the right answer, just let people answer the questions the way they want to. If you snap back an answer, even though you may be right, it can easily come off as condescending. Phase II uses the Word of God and this is when proper theology is presented.
Additionally, if someone does not want to answer these questions, DON’T FORCE IT!! Just walk away.
1. Do you have any spiritual beliefs?
2. To you, who is Jesus?
3. Do you believe in Heaven or a Hell?
4. If you were to die today, do you know where you would go?
5. May I show you a guaranteed way to go to Heaven?
If someone says “sure” or “yes”, then go ahead to phase II. If they say “no thanks”, just let it go and pray from them. Either way, you did your part and most importantly…God gets the glory no matter what!! God getting the glory is the ultimate objective of evangelism, not the result. The Holy Spirit brings the results not you, so don’t pressure yourself or others.
Phase II – The Passages to Share
The strategy here is really simple. Have the person you are sharing with read the verses out loud from the Bible. Just ask them: “can you read this out loud please?” By having people read the Bible themselves, they are seeing the passages from themselves, not just from you. After someone reads the verse out loud, all you do is ask them: “what does this verse mean to you?” After every passage someone reads, all you do is ask: “what does this mean to you”. If someone really gets the meaning of the verse way wrong, simply ask them to read it again.
You may be wondering: “why do you have the people you are sharing with read the verses out loud?” Well…Scripture tells us in Romans 10:17: “faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ”. For this reason, having people read the Bible out loud helps with their faith, and it takes faith to get saved.
1. Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
2. Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but he free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
3. Romans 10:9 – “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved”.
4. John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
5. John 14:15 – “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments”.
6. 2 Corinthians 5:15 – “And He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for him who died and rose again on their behalf.”
This is a good verse to use because it shows that believing in Jesus Christ is a life-style, where we also try to live like Jesus.
7. Revelation 3:20 – Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me”.
Phase III – The Close
This is a very important section. If someone says “no” to any one of these below questions, don’t argue with them.
1. I sin and I am not perfect. Do you sin like me?
2. Do you want forgiveness for sins?
3. Do you believe Jesus can forgive your sins?
4. Do you believe that Jesus Christ raised from the dead?
5. Would you like to ask Jesus into your heart?
Lets’ pray!! J
Notes to Keep in Mind
- You may wonder: do you have to say everything perfectly as listed above? Absolutely not. If you want to change something in this method – go for it!!
- You may wonder while you are doing this method: oh no…I did not mention everything in the method with precision, did I mess everything up? Absolutely not. Remember, the Holy Spirit does the convincing and the changing of the heart; not you. If you do not mention everything in the method with precision, God is still more than powerful enough to use you!! Just have fun when sharing your faith in Jesus Christ!! Sharing our faith in Jesus Christ is supposed to be enjoyable!! Have fun!!
- In the opening, if you want to ask more or less questions, or change the questions to fit you and your circumstance; that is perfectly fine and dandy!!
- If there is a verse that you do not like, change it!!
- If you are sharing with someone and you sense you do not want to use as many verses, that is fine!!
- Remember, in Evangelism, it is not about the method, it is about God getting the glory He deserves, and it is up to the Holy Spirit to do the convincing. You are just the vehicle to God getting glory and using you to bring the message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ to others.
- The above method address sin, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
